History

An ongoing story

The ancestors of today's underwriters operated their transport insurance business as private persons or companies at "their own cost and risk".

At the same time as this, it was in the 17th century that the first insurance companies granted the underwriters at the time powers of attorney so that they were permitted to sign transport insurance in their name.

It was in 1898 that our company founder, Berthold Glauerdt, began his work as an underwriter in Hamburg, with the first power of attorney that was granted to him, that to represent the "General Insurance Company for Sea, River and Land Transport in Dresden".

The new company then began to obtain further powers of attorney to represent other insurance companies.

The company B.Glauerdt developed in such a way in the first half of the 20th century that it became one of the most in-demand underwriters on the insurance market.

In 1999, the company succeeded in acquiring the transport insurance portfolio of the underwriter "Hamburger Phönix Gaede Assekuranz" [Hamburg Phönix Gaede Insurance] in addition to the company's own portfolio and was able to successfully continue and expand in our company to the point we have reached today.

In order to be able to better reflect the business relationships of the acquired portfolio, the company B. Glauerdt was renamed in 1999 when it became Gaede & Glauerdt Assecuradeur GmbH & Co. KG, the name it continues to operate under.

The continuation of both portfolios in one company and the further successful development of the company has made it possible for us to foster our market position to become one of the leading underwriters in Germany as a privately-managed company.
